About this Opportunity
We are looking for a couple with their own RV, who are willing to commit 32 hours a week and a minimum of three months, to assist with the upkeep of park trails.
Duties: Duties will include mowing, pruning, possible construction and maintenance of wayside exhibits and overall trail maintenance along the park Nature Trail. Duties may also include upkeep and maintenance on park roads throughout the site that are used as walking and horse trails.
Housing: Volunteers are required to work 32 hours a week or 24 hours as a couple. In exchange, we will reimburse you up to $450 per month for a campsite at a local RV park. There are three RV parks in the local area. A KOA is located right in the town of Deer Lodge (406-846-1629; www.koa.com/where/mt/26112/), Indian Creek is located just outside of town (406-846-3848; www.indiancreekcampground.net), and the Riverfront RV park is located in Garrison, MT which is just up the road from Deer Lodge (406-846-2282; www.riverfrontrvparkmt.com).
Location Description: Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS is located in Deer Lodge, western Montana. The park encompasses a little over 1600 aces and was established to provide an understanding of the frontier cattle era of the Nation’s history. It is a lesser visited NPS site which receives approximately 20,000-30,000 visitors a year. Given the long winters in Montana, the visitation is concentrated between the months of May-August. The first couple of months (May and June) consist mainly of school groups with as many as 300 children per day. The weather in Montana can be unpredictable. During the summer months it can be in the 90s during the day and drop to the 40s at night. Deer Lodge is a full-service community. For more details on the park please visit our website (www.nps.gov/grko).
