Lost Creek Lake is located 30 miles northeast of Medford, OR along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway (OR-62).  Here, the William L. Jess Dam impounds the Rogue River, creating the reservoir.  Corps project areas also include the Elk Creek Restoration area, located 25 miles northeast of Medford, OR, also along OR-62.

Help protect your public lands and waterways! Get involved with a habitat restoration project, assist with wildlife management, and/or maintain trails and recreation areas. Use power operated hand tools and non-powered hand tools. Work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions carrying tools and equipment over long distances. Specific duties will be determined based on the mobility and skill level of the individual.

Volunteer Duties: Invasive and Noxious Weed Removal – Remove invasive and noxious plant life from project grounds. Requires working in sometimes adverse weather conditions, exposure to certain environmental hazards – biting and stinging insects, rattlesnakes.  Monitor and maintain trails – Trails include Visitor Center Interpretive Trail, Rogue River Trail, Elk Creek Trail, and Viewpoint Mike Trail. Remove litter from recreation areas, roadsides, trails, and parking lots. Wildlife programs – May include goose nest surveys, eagle surveys, turtle and amphibian surveys, monitoring and maintaining wood duck boxes, etc.

Special Skills: The Resource Volunteer position requires that the volunteer needs to meet certain physical standards to perform these tasks, such as the ability to lift 10lbs, work while walking or standing for up to 6 hours a day, and operate a variety of outdoor power equipment. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own safety toe boots. Some tasks may require the volunteer to wear additional protective equipment, which will be provided as needed.
