About this Opportunity

Job Title: Safe Camping in the Park

Overview: Grass and Brush Removal Team

Opportunity Description: Volunteers are needed to remove grass and brush to help maintain fuel reduction around camping and parking areas within the park.

Duties: 1. Remove grass and brush from picnic tables, fire pits, vehicle parking areas, camper parking and primitive campsites. 2. Volunteer will be walking varied distances over uneven terrain. 3. Use mechanical grass and brush removing equipment, and hand tools. 4. Cleaning out fire pits from trash.

Work Location: Various locations throughout the park.

Work Environment: Must be able to work outside in various weather condition. Volunteers will need appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) i.e. dust mask, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, food and water. Proper footwear-closed toe shoes- (boots or tennis shoes) must be worn at all times. Lifting, kneeling, bending over, and walking can be expected. Sun protection needs to be planned for in the form of sun blockers and appropriate protective clothing.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Required: Ability to listen, learn, and follow instructions. Be able to communicate and work with others. Ability to work safely with and around equipment and other people. A basic knowledge of tools is helpful. Desired: Knowledge of hand tools. Must be in good health and physical condition as some locations are difficult to access. Training will be provided as required to safely handle brush and grass removal equipment and operate power equipment if available and/or used.

Schedule and Time Commitment Work schedule is flexible. Weekdays and weekends during daylight hours can be arranged. Schedule will be coordinated with appropriate park staff.

Housing Housing and/or RV sites are not available for this position.
