About this Opportunity
The Buffalo Gap Campground is located 6 miles west of Medora ND. This shaded campground offers plenty of privacy and is the perfect basecamp for exploring the nearby Little Missouri National Grasslands, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, or the town of Medora. Campground amenities include: 35 paved campsites, flush toilets, vault toilets, shower house, potable water, large pavilion, picnic tables, fire rings, and an RV dump station. This campground offers easy access to the Buffalo Gap Trail.
Temperatures in the summer will typically be in the 80’s and 90’s, and will occasionally reach into the 100’s. Intense thunderstorms are frequent. Most essential services (medical, gas, propane, groceries, library, laundry, ranger station, restaurants, hardware store, Walmart) may be found in Dickinson, ND.
Duties:
Greet visitors and assist campers with registration, track visitor use, inform visitors of regulations and current restrictions; clean restrooms and campsites, perform minor maintenance tasks in the campground, mow lawns, weed control, and maintain a neat and organized work area and campsite. Report any hazards in or out of the campground to Forest Service staff and report any law enforcement issues to Law Enforcement Officers or agency staff.
Benefits:
Reimbursement for daily subsistence may be offered, along with a free site equipped with hook-ups for electricity, water, and sewage.
Position Requirements:
Volunteer must enjoy meeting and talking with people, be friendly and helpful to all campground visitors. Be in good physical health and have the ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Have a professional and courteous demeanor. Set a good example for other campers.
Position Season and Hours:
The host is requested to work a minimum of 20 hours/week with two days off during the week. During periods of high use, more than 20 hours may be required. Weekend, evening, and holiday work is required. The season runs from May until September.
