Visitor Center/Museum Frontline Volunteer

Responsibilities include providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning the park and surrounding areas of interest; explaining visitor activities and recreational opportunities, including accessible features; providing NPS interpretive services; distributing maps, brochures, and other printed material. A genuine desire to ensure that each visitor has an enjoyable experience at Klondike Gold Rush NHP is essential. Volunteers must be flexible enough to handle variations in work routine caused by shifting priorities and visitor needs.

Specific Requirements: Be comfortable communicating to the public information about the park and area points of interest, available services, rules and guidelines, maps or directions, etc. Work well with co-workers. Share new and important information with co-workers and visitors. Represent the National Park Service while providing visitor contacts maintaining a professional demeanor. Answer recurring visitor questions. Resolve customer or visitor complaints by taking corrective action or referring the issue to a supervisor when appropriate. Show understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others. Relate well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations.

Visitor center hours are 9AM – 5PM in the summer, 10AM – 5PM in the winter. 

This opportunity is for Mondays, preferably until 5:00 PM. We also have some availability on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) but schedules can be flexible. 

Volunteers who earn 250 or more hours can receive a pass entitling them to free entry to all Federal lands for 12 months. The Volunteer Pass is honored nationwide at all National Park Service, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service areas where standard amenity fees are charged.
