Campground Description: Sam Brown Campground situated deep in the national forest at an elevation of 2,000 is 20 miles/1 hour from Merlin, OR. This beautiful forested campground has 19 first-come, first-served campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and three vault toilets. Two covered pavilions provide opportunities for group events such as weddings and recreation events. There is no trash removal. There are many trails and creeks close to the campground.

Responsibilities: Campground hosts represent the US Forest Service and are often the first contact person that visitors encounter on their vacation. As such campground hosts must be neat, professional, and friendly. Host(s) will assist visitors in registering for their campsite, inform visitors of area rules and regulations, help visitors with any problems that may arise, record campground use statistics, and perform minor maintenance to keep the campground and its restroom facilities clean and safe.

Across the road from Sam Brown Campground is Sam Brown Horse Camp. It has 7 first-come, first serve campsites for equestrians and one vault toilet. Campground hosts will also help maintain the facilities at the Horse Camp when in use.

This is a remote campground. Host(s) must be self-sufficient and prepared to live in a remote area.

Host(s) volunteer approximately 30 hours per week, primarily over holidays and weekends.

Host(s) should be comfortable being outside in all kinds of weather. They should also be physically capable of shoveling, raking, cleaning fire pits, and walking a couple miles a day.

Housing & Amenities

Type: Campsite

Description: Hosts are provided a free campsite. Hosts must provide their own RV or travel trailer. Hosts will be reimbursed for propane. There is no internet and little to no cell service at this campground. Host(s) will be provided with a radio and trained on how to use it in the event an emergency occurs. There is no potable water or trash removal. Forest Service staff will bring in a water supply and haul out the campground host(s) trash approximately once a week.

Upon selection, all host applicants are subject to fingerprinting and background investigation

Applicants will be evaluated weekly and posting will remain open until 5/1/2020
