About this Opportunity
Montezuma Well, a unit of Montezuma Castle, is located 11 miles from the park. Formed long ago by the collapse of a limestone cavern, over one million gallons of water a day flows continuously into the Well. This constant supply of warm, fresh water provides an aquatic habitat like no other in the world, and has served as an oasis for wildlife and humans for thousands of years.
An individual in this position should commit to 4 hours a week, although 8 hours is prefered.
DUTIES:
Staffing the Contact Station
- Assisting visitors with trip planning information
- Answering questions in person and by phone
- Tasks associated with the Junior Ranger programs
- Helping with special events
Staffing the trail
- Protecting the site from resource damage
- Answering visitor questions
- Assisting with school groups or other education group visits
- Developing and presenting Interpretive Talks and Tours (optional).
- Developing and presenting Informal Demonstrations (optional).
- Researching and developing written interpretation (optional).
Volunteers receive:
- On-the-job training
- Volunteer uniform and nametag
- Training by resource experts in archeology, geology, and biology
- Knowledge of the National Park Service

- Able to hike a steep ½ mile trail
- Able to stand for occasional long periods of time
Interpretive volunteers may spend long periods standing, talking with the general public, and working as a team with park rangers.
