About this Opportunity
Position: Volunteer River Ranger Assistants perform compliance checks on permits and the equipment of private and commercial boaters at launch areas along the San Juan River; provide interpretive and resource protection information to boaters; accompany river rangers on rafting patrols; assist with campsite inventory and monitoring; perform clean-up and light maintenance along the river and at launch areas; perform vehicle shuttles, and assist rangers in managing the campground at Sand Island.
Skills & Requirements: Communications skills; good physical condition; ability to work outdoors in hot weather; valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to tow a trailer; and some river boating experience.
Term: Flexible, March through September. A minimum, six week commitment is preferred (5 days, 40 hours per week).
Compensation: Reimbursement, training, and housing.
Housing Availablity: Shared housing is provided at Sand Island in a 3 bedroom modular home, with private bedrooms; and a shared kitchen, common area and bathroom.
