6/5-6/20  Red Horses Ranch: Cassopolis, MI

7/10-11/20  Shale Knoll Arena: Annville, PA

August (TBD) Windom, MN

9/18-19/20  BLM Maintenance Facility: Mequon, WI

Duties/Responsibilities:

Verifying animal health, locations and facility conditions meet BLM standards.

Complete title eligibility inspections for qualified adopters. 

Serve as an ambassador for the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program.

Complete Adopter-Trainer-Foster Care or Facility Inspection Form (provided).  The volunteer submits completed forms to the BLM Office of Jurisdiction. 

Requirements:

A willingness to work as part of a team

Volunteer must have knowledge of equines and possess basic horsemanship/animal husbandry skills.

Willing to wear BLM-approved Volunteer tee shirt, cap or vest.

This position requires a professional and friendly demeanor and the volunteer should be excited to represent the Bureau of Land Management.

Study and follow the BLM’s WHBP Compliance handbook (provided).

Must have the ability to read animal Freezemark and Signalment key data.

Volunteer must have good communication skills and be able to work effectively with a wide range of people and personalities.

Prior to entering on duty, applicants may be subject to pass an agency background check.

Working Conditions: This position requires standing and/or walking for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor settings. Volunteer will work in a variety of weather conditions that may include wind, rain, mud, thunderstorms, bright sun, sleet, ice and/or snow. Working on weekends and holidays may occur.

Travel Expenses: Volunteer may apply in advance for travel reimbursement depending on the distance traveled and expense. Approval is subject to available funding.
