Project 2029 Volunteer Leadership Position

Reports to: Chief Public Affairs Officer

Purpose: Lead Project 2029's media strategy and press relations to amplify our progressive policy work and organizational growth through earned media coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive media strategy for policy brief releases and organizational announcements
  • Build and maintain relationships with national, regional, and issue-specific reporters and producers
  • Coordinate interviews and media appearances for Project 2029 leadership
  • Pitch stories to journalists about our policy work, partnerships, and organizational developments
  • Manage press releases, media advisories, and background briefings
  • Track media coverage and measure impact of earned media efforts
  • Coordinate with Communications Director on messaging consistency
  • Develop crisis communication protocols for media response

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in media relations, journalism, or public relations
  • Proven track record building relationships with reporters and securing coverage
  • Understanding of progressive media landscape and key outlets
  • Experience with policy communications preferred
  • Strong writing skills and ability to work under tight deadlines

All positions are volunteer roles. Time commitment approximately 15-20 hours per week. Project 2029 is committed to building diverse leadership that reflects the communities we serve.
