OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech STEM startup using open source technology, data, and community-driven innovation to reimagine governance, strengthen transparency, and empower citizen participation across Africa. We work with citizens, policymakers, researchers, and technologists to foster open governance models that empower communities, reduce corruption, and create equitable development opportunities.
As a new startup, we are seeking a team of dedicated Fundraising Volunteers to build and execute creative fundraising strategies that ensure financial sustainability and growth at OpenGov Africa.
Fundraising Volunteers will play a crucial role in helping us secure resources through grants, partnerships, donations, and campaigns that fuel our mission of strengthening open governance in Africa.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and mobilizing resources for impact-driven initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor Research,Engagement, & Outreach: Identify potential grant opportunities, corporate sponsors, individuals, foundations, and philanthropic donors aligned with OpenGov Africa’s mission.
- Grant Writing: Identify relevant grant opportunities, draft compelling proposals and applications for grants, ensuring alignment with funders’ priorities.
- Fundraising Campaigns: Design and implement creative fundraising campaigns (online donations, events, peer-to-peer giving) to engage individuals and communities.
- Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, foundations, and organizations that align with OpenGov Africa’s mission.
- Reporting & Stewardship: Track donor engagement, prepare donor reports, and ensure transparency in fundraising efforts.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with leadership and project teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities. Work closely with the marketing team for campaigns and donor visibility.
Qualifications
- Experience or strong interest in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations (prior nonprofit experience is a plus).
- Excellent written communication and research skills.
- Creative thinker with the ability to design engaging campaigns.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of CRM systems, fundraising platforms, or social impact tools is a plus.
- Passion for governance, transparency, and impact.
Expected Requirements
- Time Commitment: 4-6 hours per week.
- Commitment Period: Minimum 6 months.
- Remote Work: Must have reliable internet access.
