Title: Volunteer Position for the Drug Testing Program at Synapses
Location: Remote/Flexible (Travel Opportunities to Festivals)
About Us:
Synapses is an impact development fund specializing in drug policy. Our mission is to ensure equity within the psychedelic and cannabis industries. This initiative leads harm reduction efforts, channeling resources into critical services that mitigate the risks associated with drug use and address the harms caused by the war on drugs.
Position Description:
We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate volunteers to join our Drug Checking program, preferably based in the NYC area. Program. As a volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to attend festivals for free, engage with communities, analyze substances, and educate individuals on safe drug practices. This role is ideal for those passionate about harm reduction and eager to make a tangible impact in promoting informed and safe drug use.
Responsibilities:
- Travel to music festivals and events to provide substance analysis services.
- Assist in setting up and operating substance testing booths.
- Perform drug testing using provided equipment and protocols.
- Educate festival attendees on drug-related risks and safe consumption practices.
- Distribute educational materials and harm reduction resources.
- Collect and record data on analyzed substances for research and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Qualifications:
- Passion for harm reduction and drug policy reform.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Willingness to travel and attend festivals and events.
- Basic knowledge of drug types, their effects, and associated risks is a plus.
- Previous experience in harm reduction, healthcare, or community outreach is beneficial but not required.
