As a South Street Ministries Bike Shop Volunteer, you will assist the Program Director and Bike Shop Coordinator in various aspects of programming. Individuals looking to serve as a Bike Shop Volunteer should be open and approachable and seek to truly connect with the individuals we serve. In addition, an overall willingness to learn and be helpful is necessary to succeed in this role. Your specific responsibilities will vary depending on the nature of the engagement and audience. However, you can expect to:

  • Meet the minimum required criteria for contractors and volunteers, including background screenings, as laid out by South Street Ministries.
  • Assist in maintaining and advancing the Bike Shop & South Street Cycles programs and cultures.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including record-keeping and donation intakes.
  • Disassemble bikes for parts, ensuring proper storage and organization.
  • Repair and maintain bicycles - following the ABCQ procedure.
  • Sort and inventory tools, parts, and accessories for efficient workflow.
  • Support the general upkeep and cleanliness of the bike shop.
  • Collaborate with staff and other volunteers to create a welcoming environment for community members.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs., repeatedly (5 - 6x’s)

Skills/Qualifications:

  • A basic mechanical background is preferred, but training will be provided
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
