About this Opportunity

Position Overview: Gender Freedom Society is seeking passionate and dedicated people to serve as a Policy Advocates, focusing on issues affecting the transgender/GNC community. Policy Advocates play a crucial role in advancing our advocacy efforts by raising awareness about transgender rights and promoting policies that support the needs of transgender individuals.

Responsibilities:

  • Policy Research: Conduct research on local, national, and international policies affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social services.
  • Advocacy Campaigns: Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to promote transgender rights and raise awareness about issues facing transgender individuals. This may include organizing petitions, letter-writing campaigns, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coalition Building: Collaborate with other organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to build coalitions and support collective advocacy efforts on behalf of the transgender community.
  • Legislative Advocacy: Monitor legislative developments related to transgender rights and work to influence policymakers through advocacy meetings, public hearings, and legislative advocacy strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, and government agencies
  • Public Education: Develop educational materials and resources to increase understanding and awareness of transgender issues among the general public, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with transgender individuals and community organizations to understand their needs, concerns, and priorities, and ensure that advocacy efforts are responsive to community voices.
  • Present research findings in written and verbal formats to policymakers, partners, and the public
  • Support grant writing or reporting by providing updates on policy work and impact metrics
  • Qualifications:

    • Passion for social justice and a commitment to advancing transgender rights and equality.
    • Strong understanding of issues affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social stigma.
    • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
    • Experience in advocacy, community organizing, or related fields is preferred but not required.
