Position: Patient Companionship Volunteer
Location: Various locations throughout Southeast Michigan
Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator
Schedule: Flexible; Typically, 2–6 hours per week
Position Description:
As a Hospice Patient Companionship Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in providing comfort, support, and a compassionate presence to patients facing life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers offer companionship and emotional support, helping to enhance the quality of life for patients and provide respite for their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit hospice patients in their homes, assisted living, or nursing facilities.
- Offer companionship through conversation, reading, listening, or simply being present
- Engage in activities such as playing music, watching movies, art, sharing hobbies, or taking walks (as appropriate)
- Provide emotional support and a comforting presence to patients and their families
Core Responsibilities for All Volunteers:
- Follow Michigan Palliative and Hospice Care policies and procedures
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information
- Complete orientation and any required training
- Communicate clearly and promptly with the Volunteer Coordinator
