About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to thrive. As part of our innovation efforts, we are developing educational games that merge technology, storytelling, and learning to give students new, engaging pathways to success.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer Project Manager to lead the development of MAP’s educational game initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on organization, collaboration, and creativity — and who is passionate about harnessing the power of games for learning and social impact. The Project Manager will ensure that teams are aligned, timelines are met, and the products we create reflect both educational goals and MAP’s mission of equity and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all phases of the educational game development process
- Build and maintain project plans, schedules, and deliverable milestones
- Facilitate communication among developers, designers, writers, and educators
- Track project progress, surface challenges early, and help resolve roadblocks
- Ensure all outputs align with MAP’s educational objectives and mission-driven values
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to the leadership team
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in project management (professional or volunteer), ideally in games, education, or creative media
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities for guiding diverse, remote teams
- Familiarity with project management tools (Trello, Jira, Asana) and collaboration platforms (Slack, GitHub, Google Workspace)
- Genuine passion for games, learning, and driving social impact through creative solutions
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of agile or scrum methodologies
- Background in educational technology, curriculum design, or instructional media
- Experience coordinating or leading volunteer-based teams
Commitment
- Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Fully remote with flexible scheduling
What You’ll Gain
- Direct experience managing innovative educational game projects
- Collaboration with a dynamic, mission-driven team of creatives and educators
- A standout portfolio project that bridges education, design, and social impact
- Professional references and letters of recommendation recognizing your leadership
