About this Opportunity

About Fruitslice:

Fruitslice is a quarterly, independent publication. We publish work exclusively by Queer artists, writers, and creators from around the world—and our team is made up of Queer volunteers who believe in the radical power of collaborative art.

We’re currently looking for a few talented, passionate designers to join our design team and support our Senior Designers and Art Directors in the ongoing creation of Fruitslice’s print issues, marketing materials, and visual identity

What You’ll Do:

This is a collaborative support role that may include:

  • Assisting with layout design and/or formatting for our quarterly print issues
  • Helping catch typos, spacing, and margin errors in pre-print layouts
  • Supporting the creation of marketing materials and digital graphics
  • Reformatting and preparing merch/ad designs using brand templates
  • Helping with basic print formatting specifications (bleeds, resolutions, margins, etc.)
  • Assisting with newsletter layout and design in Canva or Adobe
  • Giving feedback and collaborating on website wireframes and visual UX decisions
  • Designing original article cards when new essays are published on the site
  • Checking in on deadlines and communicating with other members of the team via Slack

You’re a Good Fit If You:

  • Are passionate about Queer art, literature, and storytelling
  • Have experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); Canva is a plus
  • Understand how to work with brand guidelines and templates
  • Can collaborate on an asynchronous remote team using Slack, Zoom, and Google Drive
  • Are self-motivated and comfortable managing your own workload
  • Can commit at least 6 months and a few hours per week, with the ability to jump in more during our busiest seasons
  • Want to be part of a collective of Queer creatives working together with care and intention

This is a volunteer role. Priority is given to QTPOC individuals and people from other intersectional and historically marginalized communities. We recognize that unpaid creative work can be exploitative—we do our best to ensure our time together is collaborative, flexible, and nourishing. You’ll be part of a deeply passionate team, and your voice will be valued.

We can’t wait to meet you.
