About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, literacy development, and creative expression, MAP fosters safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

MAP Roots, our in-person program, is the heart of our work in schools, shelters, and community centers. It provides students with direct access to mentors, literacy support, enrichment activities, and safe spaces for growth. By connecting young people with consistent guidance and opportunities, MAP Roots strengthens their foundation—helping them build confidence, resilience, and pathways toward long-term success.
