Description of the Role
The Community Journalist & Storytelling Coordinator will lead public-facing content and engagement strategies focused on surfacing and shaping real stories from the communities LandSeed serves. This role involves outreach, interview facilitation, content creation, and cross-functional collaboration to align storytelling with the organization’s mission. You’ll apply journalistic practices to capture authentic experiences and translate them into content for blogs, campaigns, reports, and more.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead outreach and public-facing communication strategies to engage community voices.
- Design and support engagement structures to surface personal stories and lived experiences.
- Facilitate interviews, conversations, and community discussions with a respectful, empathetic approach.
- Apply journalistic methods to gather information, verify facts, and craft compelling narratives.
- Write and edit content for blogs, newsletters, reports, campaigns, and internal storytelling.
- Collaborate across departments to align narratives with LandSeed’s mission and priorities.
- Maintain ethical storytelling practices that respect dignity, privacy, and informed consent.
- Help develop storytelling assets (e.g., quotes, profiles, case studies) for program and fundraising use.
- Stay informed on best practices in impact storytelling, nonprofit communications, and community engagement.
Required Experience/Skills
- Strong writing, editing, and interviewing skills with a journalistic or storytelling background.
- Experience in community engagement, public communication, or journalism.
- Ability to facilitate meaningful conversations and build trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ethical storytelling practices, particularly in nonprofit or community contexts.
- Detail-oriented and skilled in shaping clear, accessible narratives from complex experiences.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and translate strategy into content.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, mission-driven environment.
- Bonus: Experience with multimedia storytelling, content strategy, or social impact campaigns.
