About this Opportunity

Fostering autonomy team at CrowdDoing people management

  • Set Clear Expectations: Clearly communicate the outcomes or goals of the tasks, but allow volunteers to determine the best way to achieve these results. Ensure volunteers understand the organization's mission, vision, and values so their autonomous actions align with these.

  • Provide Necessary Resources and Tools: Equip volunteers with the necessary resources, tools, and information to carry out their tasks independently.

  • Support Skill Development: Collaborate with the Learning and Development Sub-Team to provide training and resources that will help volunteers develop the skills they need to work autonomously.

  • Encourage Decision-Making: Encourage volunteers to make decisions related to their work. This could involve giving them the authority to make certain decisions within the scope of their roles.

  • Create a Supportive Environment: Ensure volunteers know they can seek help when needed. Create a supportive environment where asking questions and seeking assistance is encouraged, so that autonomy does not lead to isolation or excessive stress.

  • Offer Feedback: Provide constructive feedback that helps volunteers understand their strengths and areas for improvement. This helps them to learn, grow, and make better decisions when working autonomously.

  • Recognize and Reward Autonomy: Acknowledge and appreciate when volunteers show initiative and take responsibility. This will encourage others to do the same.

  • Review and Adjust: Regularly review the level of autonomy given to volunteers to ensure it's appropriate and beneficial. Make adjustments based on feedback from volunteers and the outcomes of their autonomous work.

  • Promote a Culture of Trust: Trust is a key component of autonomy. Trust volunteers with responsibilities and show them that their contributions are valued.

  • By following this roadmap, you can effectively promote autonomy among volunteers, enhancing their engagement and satisfaction by providing them with a sense of ownership and control over their work.
