About this Opportunity

TheDelivery Driver is responsible for delivering and/or transporting food, meals, commodities, pet food, or other specified goods topatron homes or other specified locations. The volunteer will pick up items at Brewer and deliver to one of the areas listed below.We are looking for multiple people to fill these opportunities:

Backup drivers are usually called on short notice or scheduled ahead of time to drive for various routes in the area they're assigned

Pickup at Brewer location:

Mondays: Deliver to Newport area (9:30am - 1pm); 10-15 consumers served on bi-weekly route

Tuesdays: Deliver any route that's needed (9:30am - 12pm); 8-12 consumers served on weekly route

Wednesdays: Deliver any route that's needed (9:30am - 12pm); 8-12 consumers served on weekly route

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Picks up products at central distribution location.
  • Follows written and oral directions of Local Coordinator to make deliveries.
  • Reports any client concerns to Local Coordinator immediately (examples include but not limited to: patron not home or ill; Adult Protective Service (APS) issues; something seems different or unusual).
  • Tracks and reports volunteer hours and mileage to Local Coordinator as directed.
  • Practices food/product safety standards during the performance of duties as advised by supervisor.
  • Understands that distracted driving (talking on phone, texting, reading map etc.) is prohibited.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately and securely handle money and provide receipts as well as perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
  • Long Distance Drivers may be asked to:
  • Lift and transport goods into specified locations
  • Deliver goods outside of regular working hours (8am-4:30pm)
  • Use company vehicle with prior approval

    • GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Maintains confidentiality of all client information.
  • Represents Eastern Area Agency on Aging positively by remaining flexible and maintaining a pleasant, friendly and sociable attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for position-related requirements.
  • Provide at least 24 hours notice, whenever possible, when not able to attend scheduled volunteer time due to other obligations or illness.

    • QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

    Experience and Skills Preferred:

    • Willingness and interest in helping the elderly population
    • Ability to navigate rural Maine having GPS capapabilities

    Education/Skills:

    • High School diploma or GED preferred.
    • Knowledge of services and programs available for older persons preferred.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
