TheSouthern Maine Agency on Aging is teaming up with Hospice of Southern Maine to recruit Volunteers! Hospice of Southern Maine believes in doing everything we can to provide the highest quality of care for our patients. Striving to help each patient reach their goals at end of life, we work together to create an individualized plan of care with each of our patients. That includes support from family caregivers, loved ones, and our interdisciplinary team of clinicians...and volunteers! Join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and their loved ones.

As a Tuck-In Phone CallerHospice Volunteer, you will provide essential support to patients by making a brief phone call on Thursdays mornings to make sure they have everything they need for the weekend (food, medications, etc.). Offer a listening ear and some friendly conversation as well! Your involvement will be invaluable in ensuring that our patients receive the care and comfort they deserve.

Key Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Call patients on Thursdays mornings to ensure they have everything they need for the weekend (medications, food, etc.).
  • Offer a listening ear and friendly conversation.
  • Submit regular reports on calls with patients and any relevant observations.
  • Participate in training programs and ongoing education to ensure you are prepared to meet the needs of our patients.
  • Communicate regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator and be part of an interdisciplinary team supporting the patient and family.

Qualities & Skills We're Looking For:

  • Mature, compassionate individual who is comfortable communicating withthose who are ill or may have cognitive impairments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy protocols.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to commit to regular availability.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Commitment & Schedule:

  • Volunteers needed Thursday mornings
  • Make calls from home, work, on the go...wherever you are!
  • Minimum Commitment: At least three months

Training & Support:

  • Volunteer Orientation and Role-Specific Training provided at onboarding
  • Ongoing Support: Youll receive 24-hour support from our team, along with additional training and volunteer recognition events.
