Do you love having fun? Do you enjoy connecting with older adults?Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) is seeking Volunteers to help serve meals at our Community Cafes!

About SMAA:
At the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, we empower older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers to live to their fullest potential. Join our mission to support community connection and wellness across Southern Maine!
Our Community Cafesare available throughout Cumberland and York counties and provide participants aged 60 and over with an opportunity to socialize with other attendees while enjoying a delicious and nutritious lunch. Some Community Cafs also offer entertainment (such as bingo, games, and musical acts) or educational opportunities (such as speakers and resource tables).
Location: Various locations across Cumberland and York Counties, ME
Commitment: 6 months, ongoing
Schedule: Day of the Community Caf event (varies by site), each Cafe runs for about 2 hours
What qualities, experience & skills does I need as a Community Cafe Volunteer?
Ability to work with older people; patience, kindness, good sense of humor, love of people, the ability to see the value of all people.
What will I do as a Community Cafe Volunteer?
- Set tables for the Community Caf
- Help serve meals and beverages to participants
- Wash dishes, tables, and counters; assist with kitchen cleanup
- Receive food from the caterer and heat to proper temperatures
- Monitor and track food temperatures per ServSafe guidelines
- Pick up dry goods at the Cohen Center in Biddeford, as needed
- Be a friendly, welcoming presence during the Community Cafe
- Chat and socialize with participants as time allows
Getting Started:
Volunteers can begin right away after: attending an onboarding training (virtual and in-person options!), completing a backgroundcheck, and receiving a SafeServ training (provided by SMAA & renewed every 2 years)
