About this Opportunity
The Info Booth Volunteer will play a key role in making this program a success this season, operating SNAP and Maine Harvest Bucks at the Farmington Farmers Market. The Info Booth Volunteer will be responsible for the successful operation of the Info Booth at the market. The Info Booth Volunteer will process credit, debit and SNAP/EBT transactions at the info booth and ensure the proper operations of the SNAP and Maine Harvest Bucks program at the market. This position is managed by the Farmington Farmers Market and the United Way of the Tri Valley Area. Specific responsibilities and skills needed are detailed below.
Schedule:
4 hours / week
Saturdays, July through October
8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Volunteers will need to commit to 6 - 8 Saturdays over the course of the market season

Overview The Maine Harvest Bucks incentive program helps shoppers using SNAP food supplement benefits at farmers markets and other local food markets to stretch their dollars and access more fresh local food. (Learn more about the program at www.maineharvestbucks.org). Training: Farmington Farmers Market staff will provide pre-season training, training at the market, and support as needed throughout the season. United Way of the Tri-Valley Area will provide training on basic resources and programs that may be shared with shoppers. United Way will also provide materials to be on display at the booth. United Way and Farmington Farmers Market will train volunteer(s) on use of the EBT/Credit/Debit machine.
Weekly tasks:
* Operate market information booth at Farmington Farmers Market on Saturday from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm (July - late October)
Arrive by 8:30 am to prepare for market start time (9:00 am)
Set up market info booth (tent, tables, and information) and create an attractive display with signage and materials provided;
Act as friendly and informative market point person to all customers (stay informed of market updates and in tune with market happenings by checking in with all vendors at the start of each market date to see what is available and learn of any updates);
Manage and record transactions (EBT, debit/credit, Maine Harvest Bucks) on spreadsheets provided;
Keep inventory of info booth materials and communicate with Farmington Farmers Market if materials are running low (receipt paper, sheets, flyers, etc).
Keep inventory of resource materials and notify United Way contact (Nichole at [email protected] or call 778-5048) if materials are running low.
Consolidate daily records and give them to program treasurer at the end of each market day; Pack up market info booth and ensure that all materials/equipment are safely and appropriately stored
Document hours as trained on volunteer.uwtva.org Qualifications Access to reliable transportation Ability to communicate effectively via phone and email on a regular basis
Willing to learn and not afraid to ask questions Detail-oriented Proficient in basic math Friendly and communicative
Ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds Knowledge of/interest in local foods a plus!
