Description of the Internship: The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area (UWTVA) is seeking an intern to help research and write grants that provide critical funding to community programs like food pantries and domestic violence prevention programs. The intern will also seek grant support for United Way initiatives such as Leadership and Growth Through Service Summer Experience and Packs for Progress.
. Based on a 150-450-hour commitment (depending on the institution and requirements). The internship and its responsibilities and associated hours may be modified to meet internship requirements of fewer hours (to a minimum of 135).
Responsibilities:
- Attend orientation session at the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, 218 Fairbanks Road, Farmingtonor via Zoom as appropriate
- Attend Franklin Volunteer Network (FVN) meetings as scheduled and available and record meeting minutes.
- Research funding opportunities nationally, regionally and locally
- Target outcome: Review existing grants written by UWTVA
- Target outcome: Update existing grant tracking spreadsheet to ensure accuracy of information
- Target outcome: Read resource materials on how to write successful grants provided by UWTVA
- Target outcome: Research new funding opportunities and identify at least ten new funders and add them to the UWTVA grant tracking sheet
- Target outcome: Become familiar with the Maine Philanthropy Center and its resources, including the Directory of Maine Grant Makers
- Attend other community meetings as interested and available.
- Provide a written one-page report to site supervisor weekly.
- Meet at a scheduled time for a one-on-one meeting with site supervisor at least every two weeks (frequent interaction will also occur at the United Way office, FVN meetings, and other venues throughout the community).
- Ask questions as needed so site supervisor can provide appropriate support.

- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to talk with a variety of persons/groups
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent research and organizational skills
- Good computer skills
- Familiarity with social media
- Attention to detail
