The Intern will enthusiastically assist with developing new initiatives, recruit volunteers, and interview those interested in volunteering, while assisting in updating local volunteer opportunities with organizations in need of volunteers. Intern will also promote the Center and advocate for the volunteer sector by demonstrating the return on investment such as health benefits, increased employment skills, etc.Working as a representative of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Areas Volunteer Center, this internship position requires strong communication skills, independence, and a willingness to work with people individually and in groups connected to promoting and advocating for the volunteer sector in Greater Franklin County.Based on a 450-hour commitment, this internship meets UMFs Rehabilitative Services Departments internship requirements. The internship and its responsibilities and associated hours may be modified to meet internship requirements of fewer hours (to a minimum of 135).Responsibilities: Attend orientation session at the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, 232 Broadway, Farmington. Attend Franklin Volunteer Network (FVN) meetings on the second Friday of each month and formally record meeting minutes. Promote the Volunteer Center concept in a regional way (through outreach, signage, branding, social media), and recruit new members to the Franklin Volunteer Network. Assist with planning, execution, and evaluation of the Franklin Volunteer networks Project Connect and volunteer recognition event. Be active in outreach and inventory current volunteer opportunities and identify new organizations to add to the United Ways growing list of service opportunities. Work closely with individual organizations to post opportunities on the state-wide online database volunteermaine.org. Focus will be on identifying both long-term AND episodic volunteer opportunities throughout our region. Assist Franklin Volunteer Network members as they continue to develop marketing materials; establish a project timeline for members to follow; and, assist with the development of data collection systems. Be available during UWTVA office hours to interview and document those interested in volunteer opportunities, helping them find the right match for their experience. Assist supervisor with creating and implementing Volunteer Voice monthly e-newsletter. Assist in compiling information and data to demonstrate the volunteer sectors return on investment within our region. Attend other community meetings as interested and available. Provide a written one-page report to site supervisor weekly. Meet at a scheduled time for a one-on-one meeting with site supervisor at least every two weeks (frequent interaction will also occur at the United Way office, FVN meetings, and other venues throughout the community).
