About this Opportunity
Do you enjoy working with kids? Learning and sharing local history? Join our education team and present history to schools, home school groups, and other organizations. In 2018, our educational programs reached 14,000 local students!
Volunteer presenters lead a guided conversation using the artifacts provided to make history come alive. Each presentation is 30 minutes long and can take place at the school or at the museum during a field trip.
Scheduling is Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am and 3pm as needed. Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking and working with children, passionate about education, and have an interest in history. Being able to lift up to 50lbs is helpful, but not expected. Ideal for retired teachers.
Education Volunteers will receive training materials and have the option of shadowing other volunteers before conducting an education program.
More about our education programs:
- The Williamson Museum offers field trips for all ages at the locations in Georgetown and Round Rock. Georgetown rotations include leading a guided tour of downtown or the courthouse, guiding a mock trial in the courthouse, trunk presentations, and sharing the history of the county. Round Rock rotations include a house tour, daily chores of the 1800s, and trunk presentations. Each rotation is 30 minutes long.
- Our traveling trunks are available to local educators for rent and include artifacts, hands-on activities, primary sources, and lesson plans for use in the classroom. There are many different topics ranging from pioneer history, the American Revolution, and Endangered Species.
