About this Opportunity

Do you have a passion for water education and Appalachian communities? Our wild and wonderful state of West Virginia has over 40,000 stream miles to be utilized for educational programing with youth and underserved communities. This program will provide the opportunity for career experience with state, federal and non-profit partners that provide technical assistance and grant funds for environmental restoration efforts and environmental education programming. You will be supported by the WV Project WET Coordinator and the WV Department of Environmental Protection¿s Watershed Improvement Branch staff to create innovative projects that improve water quality, habitat, health, recreation, youth programs, and community partnerships and revitalization. Engaging youth and community leaders will be key in building partnerships and support around clean water. You will meet people across the Mountain state, build programs and networks, write grants to promote environmental stewardship projects, and leave a lasting impact on numerous communities, educators, and youth groups.

One position, based out of either the Fayetteville or Charleston WVDEP field office, will implement a water-use and conservation program with rain barrels and Project WET resources, engage educators and communities with wetland-focused programming in southern West Virginia, and present Project WET activities and resources at water festivals, conferences, summer camps, school classrooms, and more. You will visit Appalachian communities and empower them to love and protect their most important resource - water!
