About this Opportunity
In 1997 the Waterville Boys & Girls Club, the Waterville YMCA, and the City of Waterville came together to create the Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC). Today, The AYCC stands as the only successful collaboration of a Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and YMCA in the United States. Today, The AYCC serves more than 8,000 children and families from 191 communities in central Maine. Currently AYCC is an approved CACFP sponsor to 3 afterschool sites in Waterville and 1 in Oakland, Skowhegan, Norridgewock, and Benton, additionally we serve as an approved SFSP for Camp Tracy in Oakland and our Summer Enrichment Program at the AYCC facility. Also, throughout the year AYCC sponsors free holiday meal events for the community and during COVID AYCC gave out over 85,000 meals. AYCC also has a Farm to School grant that is focused on the development of a Garden to Table educational curriculum. We look to have the Everyone at the Table Vista Grant Coordinator help to increase the (AYCC) Grant Department capacity by aligning the AYCC Food Insecurity initiatives, policies, and strategies with the state of ¿Maine¿s Roadmap to End Hunger by 2030¿ as a means to reduce poverty rates, eradicate very low food insecurity, and decrease the rate of low food insecurity to 4% for the children, single parent and working poor households of the AYCC - Greater Waterville community. The Vista member will create and implement a fund development plan from June 6, 2022 to June 5, 2023 by conducting assessments, research, writing and managing grants that are focused on local food access, childcare, career exploration, workforce readiness, and opportunity. ¿This position contributes to Maine¿s historic goal of ending hunger in the state by 2030 as part of Ending Hunger Corps, a 25-member cohort model VISTA program sponsored by Maine's Department of Agriculture, Conservation, Forestry (DACF).
