Who: The Thaddeus Resource Center is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to restore HOPE, inspire GROWTH, and EMPOWER girls and women through mental health, education, life skill development, workforce training, and other supportive services. We pride ourselves in having established an empowering and compassionate culture that promotes open communication and collaboration through our values of Empowerment, Commitment, Compassion, Community, and Grace.
What to Expect:- This is a Volunteer Opportunity, there is no monteary compensation during or after your time.
- Mentorship and Skill Development: Professional Mentors will be responsible for working one-on-one mentoring data science interns and staff. Sharing practical knowledge, the industry's best practices, and real-world applications will allow Professional Mentors to guide staff and interns in being experts of data manipulation, visualization, and predictive modeling.
- Project Oversight: Professional Mentors will be responsible for being the leads in planning, development, and implementation of data science projects. Be sure that organizational goals and data-driven decision-making are aligned.
- Technical Guidance: Professional Mentors will assist in choosing the appropriate tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, R, SQL), while also reviewing code, algorithms, and statistical methodologies.
- Ethical Data Practices: Professional Mentors are responsible for emphasizing ethical considerations in data collection, privacy, and bias while promoting responsible AI and fairness.
- Collaboration: Professional Mentors will work closely with other tech department members and participate in cross-functional discussions and knowledge sharing.
- Experienced Data Scientist: Required to have a strong background in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling. Having strong knowledge and being proficient in the language of Python, R, or similar is also of the utmost importance. Being familiar with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn) is needed to succeed.
- Effective Communication Skills: Professional Mentors must be able to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, and be an attentive listener who gives constructive feedback.
- 5 hrs./week including mandatory meetings
- 1-year minimum
- Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings:
- Weekly All Staff Meeting: Tuesdays 9 - 10 AM PST
- Weekly Tech Department Meetings: Thursdays 9 - 11 AM PST
