Food Pantry Distribution Volunteer

Our Alton location provides curb-side food pantry service and is in need of regular food pantry distribution volunteers on Wednesdays from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.  The volunteers will carry pre-packed boxes to the outdoor table for clients to load into their cars, as they drive up during pantry distribution hours.  The volunteer will need to be able to lift a "dry goods" box, produce box and a flat of cans a short distance to the table for each car (approximately 40).  The boxes may weigh between 30 and 50 pounds. This is a good opportunity to interact with food pantry clients and make them feel welcome.  Volunteers can assist the elderly or disabled clients load items into their cars, if needed.  This experience is eye opening for volunteers, as they see the needs of the community first hand and the amount of food necessary to satifsy food insecurity.  It's a good opportunity for volunteers to feel like they are truly helping to make a difference.
