Schropp Shoppe Volunteer

Purpose: Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe is a charming store inspired by the town’s original dry goods store, which was owned by John and Maria Elizabeth Schropp, Goundie’s daughter and son-in-law, in the mid-1800s. Volunteers assist staff to ensure customers receive high levels of care and service and have a welcoming experience in the shoppe.  

Schropp Dry Goods Shoppe volunteers are needed Mondays– Thursdays, 10 am – 5pm and 10am-6pm Fridays-Sundays in Spring & Summer.  

Hours Tend to Increase to 10am-6pm on Monday-Thursday & 10am-8pm on Friday-Sunday in the Fall/Holiday Season.  

Location: Schropp Shoppe volunteers work in the offices, on the sales floor, and within the Schropp Shoppe at 505 Main Street in Bethlehem, PA.  

Key Responsibilities: 

Greeter/Sales Floor Volunteer 

Greets guests at the Schropp Shoppe and offers historic information 

Greets guests and offers information about Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites  

Suggests items for purchase in the store and offers information about products and consigners  

Keeps sales floor clean and restocks when necessary 

Check-Out Volunteer  

Assists staff at check out by helping wrap and bag items carefully and efficiently  

Ensure tissue paper, bags, and boxes are fully stocked at the counter  

Assists staff in gathering pick-up merchandise and dessert orders and handing them to customers  

If comfortable, complete sales transactions using the Clover device when lines become long  

Help direct customers to the next available register  

Time Commitment: Needed all year round. November- December availability preferred during our peak hours/season. Volunteer shifts typically run between 3-4 hours no more than 2 days a week. Looking for weekend and occasional evening availability  

Qualifications: Basic knowledge of computer and data entry. Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, confidence, dependability. 

Support: Training for this position will be provided. Managers and experienced staff will be available for questions and assistance. 

Age Requirement: 18+
