About this Opportunity

Brief Organizational Description:

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People, Inc. (CAPUP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with nearly 60 years of commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals facing hardships. Our mission is to empower and uplift communities through collaborative partnerships, dedicated staff, and impactful programs designed to create positive change.

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

We are looking for compassionate and detail-oriented volunteers to assist with intake and basic needs assessments at CAPUP. In this role, you will conduct intake interviews with guests, assess their immediate needs, and provide orientation to our food pantry for first-time visitors. You will also help triage other needs to the appropriate staff members, ensuring that all guests receive the support and resources they require.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Complete intake forms with guests, gathering necessary information to assess their basic needs.

  • Orient first-time visitors to the food pantry and explain how the services work.

  • Assess and prioritize immediate needs of guests, ensuring they are connected to the appropriate resources.

  • Triage other needs to the appropriate internal or external staff members for further support.

  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of guests at all times.

  • Assist with any additional tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations of the intake process.

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental attitude toward individuals seeking assistance.

  • Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality.

  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Experience in social services, intake, or customer service is a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment:

Volunteers will be expected to work for three hour shifts (for the duration of the food pantry + some prep time before and after). Your support will directly impact the well-being of our neighbors, and together, we can bring hope and comfort to those who need it most.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting this important initiative! We look forward to partnering with you to uplift our community.
