Cook and Deliver: Potluck Dinner at Shelter (age 6+) Referral

Every night, Transition Projects provides shelter for over 700 adults experiencing homelessness in Portland. Food insecurity is one of our biggest challenges which volunteers help us overcome by providing hot and nutritious dinners.

Our River District Navigation Center (1111 NW Naito Parkway) is home to 90 individuals. This shelter doesn’t have a kitchen which makes it difficult to prepare meals. That’s where the potluck dinner comes in! Volunteers prepare a dish or two at home and deliver it to the shelter. For example, one volunteer will make an entrée for 30 individuals (such as chicken breasts, lasagna, chili, etc.) Another volunteer will make a side dish for 45 (bread, fruit, salad, etc.). With the help of several volunteers, we can create a potluck feast to feed 90.

Volunteers will sign up to cook at home and deliver an entrée, vegetable dish, or side dish to feed 30-45 people. We're counting on you! It is imperative that if you sign up for this project, you provide the meal assigned to you. When volunteers don't show up, we're not able to complete the meal and feed all shelter residents.

Transition Projects helps individuals transition from homelessness to housing. This project provides a direct opportunity to provide a healthy meal to someone in need. We provide dinner to over 700 individuals each night and couldn't do it without the support of volunteer contributions of food, cooking, and serving.

Opportunity Requirements:

• Volunteers must be 6 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
