Many opportunities at local emergency shelter - Ann Arbor

The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is looking for volunteers to assist in various different ways at a local shelter. The shelter works with a diverse range of people struggling with homelessness, including veterans, domestic violence survivors, and people battling substance abuse and/or mental health issues.

Garden Club- Spend an hour a week watering, weeding and pruning the community garden. Engage residents to join and pick and take home some vegetables! Tues., Thurs., Sun. 7p-8p (may be earlier in the fall)

Shelter Meal Facilitator -You will not be serving meals. Meal Facilitator helps with seating, spacing, and keeping the peace. Afterward, you will assist in cleaning the tables, stacking chairs, & (in the evenings) sweeping & mopping the floor. Weekdays Lunch (11-1) and Dinner (5-7) and Weekends (3-5). The shift is extended before and after the meal to allow time to engage with clients.

Shelter Van Maintenance - This van is used for transporting clients and supplies, so it gets a lot of use. We need a volunteer who can keep the van fueled and cleaned and take it in for routine maintenance. A volunteer would take the van to re-fuel, check fluids, and wash/vacuum the van at a car wash. Pick a day and time that is convenient for you to pick up the van each week.

Volunteers for any of these positions should have some level of computer literacy and consistent access to the internet, as volunteers sign up for shifts online each month.

Volunteers will go through some background checks and all positions require some training.
