About this Opportunity
Despite the global attention Kodaikanal receives for its beauty, the health system there has failed to show significant progress, and a number of social, political and economic factors have inhibited the community's development. We operate a rural clinic in the outskirts of town as well as partner with local hospitals and creches. A creche is a combination school, day care center, and health center for children between 2 and 5 years old which provides basic shelter, food, education and care. FIMRC currently supports four creches through nutritional supplementation and physical exams for the children.
Volunteers will spend part of each day assisting medical staff at FIMRC's rural clinic as well as local health facilities, will assist staff during well child checks at the creches, and will also facilitate health education activities. Our site in India offers a dynamic blend of hands on experience with children as well as an eye opening view of health care in India.
