On the Road Collaborative seeks candidates for part-time After School Van Driver(s) for our after-school programs in Harrisonburg for the 2023-2024 school year.

Positions begin September 2023.

Organizational Description:

On the Road Collaborative (On the Road) is a non-profit youth empowerment organization in the Shenandoah Valley. Our mission is to empower middle and high school youth by providing equal access to educational opportunities and hands-on career experiences. Through our unique after-school learning programs, we connect our youth to trusting adult relationships and equitable opportunities, enrich their lives with additional learning opportunities that inspire growth, and empower our youth to realize and fulfill their promise. Our programs are offered for youth in Harrisonburg (Skyline Middle School, Thomas Harrison Middle School and Harrisonburg High School) and Waynesboro (Kate Collins Middle School and Waynesboro High School). We serve more than 300 youth annually.

After School Van Driver Position Description:

An On the Road Collaborative Van Driver will transport youth home over scheduled routes from Skyline and/or Thomas Harrison Middle Schools upon the conclusion of our after-school programs. Drivers will operate 12-15 passenger vans while making sure to follow all traffic laws, taking great care to ensure the safety of youth during transport. Drivers will be accompanied by an On the Road staff member to assist with navigation and monitoring of youth.

On the Roads middle school after-school programs in Harrisonburg operate on weekday afternoons (Monday-Thursday, 2:05 p.m. - 4:35 p.m.) throughout most of the school year (September-May).

The After School Van Driver typically must be available at least two afternoons per week (Monday-Thursday) between the hours of 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Drivers may have the opportunity to occasionally drive for special field trips during program hours as their schedule permits.

Qualifications:

Strong candidates for this position will demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the On the Road Collaboratives mission and goals
  • Safe driver with a clean driving record and background check

  • Friendly personality who can get along well with On the Road youth and staff
  • Responsible; can be trusted to report any issues, incidents and/or concerns with On the Road program leadership
  • Effective communicator
  • Dependable; can be counted on to show up for all scheduled driving days on-time

Position Details:

  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Full year candidates preferred, semester-only candidates acceptable
  • Pay is $18/hour (*there are also volunteer van driving opportunities)
  • Must be able to commit to at least two afternoons per week (Monday-Thursday) throughout the fall semester (*volunteer opportunity may have more flexibility in terms of commitment)
  • This position would be based in Harrisonburg
  • Hiring will be contingent on a clean driving record and background check
