About this Opportunity
Healing by Growing Farms (HBG) is seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to join our team as Farm Hands. This is a hands-on opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals we serve while immersing yourself in the healing power of nature and agriculture.
Responsibilities: Plant Care: Watering, weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring the health of diverse crops, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Animal Care: Feeding, cleaning cages, and providing supervised free-range time for our farm animals, including chickens, goats, and rabbits. Landscaping: Weekly grass trimming, planting new crops, and maintaining the aesthetic appeal of our farm grounds. Crop Management: Identifying and addressing plant diseases and pests, implementing organic pest control methods, and ensuring optimal crop growth. Greenhouse Management: Maintaining the greenhouse environment, including temperature and humidity control, watering, and replanting seedlings. Beekeeping: Experienced beekeepers are needed to assist with hive maintenance, honey extraction, and swarm prevention. Healing Gardens: Maintaining our four unique healing gardens (Memorial Garden, Pollinator TBI Garden, Healing Medicinal/Kitchen Garden, and Edible Foodscape Garden), ensuring their beauty and functionality. Community Support: Assisting with the delivery of fresh produce to homebound individuals and survivors in need. Qualifications: Passion for Agriculture: A genuine love for working outdoors and a desire to contribute to sustainable agriculture practices. Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions and building projects. Reliability and Commitment: Willingness to commit to a regular volunteer schedule and adhere to farm protocols and safety guidelines. Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with other volunteers and staff members. Experience (Preferred): Prior experience in farming, gardening, or animal care is a plus, but not required. Beekeeping Experience (Required): For beekeeping tasks, prior experience and knowledge of beekeeping practices are essential.
