About this Opportunity

Live, work and play in the scenic Windriver mountains! Lander, Wyoming is an adventure mecca, offering hiking, biking, climbing, historic site tours, 4-wheel driving, scenic drives and much more.

Host(s) are needed for 3-6 months from June-October at Atlantic City and Big Atlantic Gulch Campgrounds. These campgrounds are a 30 minute drive from Lander, but are a short driving distance from the historic gold-rush towns of Atlantic City and the South Pass Wyoming State Historic Site.  

The campgrounds provide a total of 30 sites, with Atlantic City Campground hosting 20 sites, and Big Atlantic gulch with 10 sites respectively. The greater Atlantic City area is a base camp for exploring millions of acres of breath-taking BLM lands, as well as the 5 National Historic and Scenic Trails in the area. Volunteer must serve a minimum of three months up to the entire season June-October.

LOCATION: Hosts manage popular BLM Campgrounds located in the greater Atlantic City Area. 

  • Housing/Facilities: Hosts provide and reside in their own RV.  Hookups and host site provided by BLM Hosts provide their own functioning transport vehicle for campground needs, obtaining personal provisions, and recreation on days off.
  • Electricity & Propane:  Electrical hookups are provided at the host site.  Heating for early spring and late fall nights and air conditioning/cooling system for May through September are highly desirable.
  • Water: Potable water hookup available at the host site. 
  • Sewer: Septic hookups at camp host site for sewer/gray & black water. All campgrounds have vault toilets.
  • Terrain:  Broken patches of pines and aspens within the campground and immediat area. To the west, dense conifer forest comprise the southern end of the Windriver Mountains, and to the east, the high desert prarie landscape provides a uniquely Wyoming feel. 
  • Temperatures: Daytime emperatures range from 60-70s and nights from 40-50 degrees. 

DUTIES

  • Public Contact:  Hosts provide camping assistance and area information to visitors; advise visitors about rules and regulations; and alert law enforcement about emergencies, unsafe conditions, or infractions.  (No law enforcement duties.)  Hosts present professional, neat appearance to the public and wear BLM t-shirts or vests & hats (provided).  
  • Cleaning:  A contractor is in charge of the bulk of the facility maintanance and cleaning, however, host may be asked to conduct fill-in activities on an as needed basis. Toilet cleaning and restocking vault toilets with toilet paper will be needed on an intermittent basis. Pick-up litter. Perform light maintenance as needed. 
  • Schedule:    Reside at campground seven days a week--typically work Thursdays through Mondays; off Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Work hours: 8 hours per day (am and pm duties).
  • Abilities:  Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to serve independently with minimal supervision. Able to walk or stand for campground rounds and lift 20 lbs. if needed.
  • Reimbursement   Depending on experience, $20-30/day for each 8 hour service day. Minimum 3.5 month commitment for reimbursement.

  • Submit Volunteer.gov application.  Couples submit separate applications for each person.
  • Supply a minimum of two recent work or volunteer position references. 
  • Daytime phone interview.  Provide your phone numbers for weekdays and weekends.  
  • Must be willing to submit to a background check conducted by the BLM LFO Law Enforcement Officer.
