BLM Moab UT Campground Host With Reimbursement-Fall 2020

Live, work and play in scenic Moab, UT! Home of red rock and blue skies, Moab is an adventure mecca, offering hiking, biking, climbing, river rafting, 4-wheel driving, scenic drives and much more.

Hosts are needed for a minimum of two (2) or more months from March 6--May 31 and September 1--early November (dates may be flexible) at Goose Island, Big Bend, Hittle Bottom, Horsethief, Ken's Lake, William's Bottom, King's Bottom and Windwhistle (Canyon Rims) campgrounds. https://www.discovermoab.com/blm-campgrounds/

Moab offers the quaintness of a small town, yet with full range of amenities and services. Moab is the base camp for exploring millions of acres of breath-taking BLM lands, as well as Arches and Canyonlands national parks, Dead Horse Point State Park, and the La Sal Mountains. 

DETAILS: Hosts manage popular BLM Campgrounds located along stunning scenic by-ways including Hwy 128 (Colorado Riverway), Hwy 279, Hwy 313, and the Canyon Rims and Kane Creek roads.

• Housing/Facilities: Hosts provide and reside in their own RV.  No hook-ups (water or electric) available. Showers, water and ice available at Moab BLM office. Hosts provide their own functioning transport vehicle for campground needs (mileage is reimbursable), obtaining personal provisions, and recreation on days-off.
• Electricity & Propane:  No electric or propane available (solar works well and is highly recommended).  Host provide their own solar and/or propane/generators (operating hours 8am-8 pm). Portable solar units may be available from the BLM office. Heating for early spring and late fall nights and air conditioning/cooling system for May and September are highly desirable.
• Water: No water on-site. Water, ice and showers are available at the Moab Office (30-50 gallon containers and pumps may be provided).
• Sewer: Vaults at camp host site for sewer/gray & black water. All campgrounds have vault toilets (no flush toilets).
• Terrain:  Canyons and mesas (elevation 4000-6000 feet).  Cottonwoods & oaks along rivers: pinyon-junipers on mesas. Some campgrounds have more shade than others.
• Temperatures: Spring and fall day temperatures range from 60-90s and nights from 40-60 degrees.
• Precipitation:  Average annual rainfall is10 inches. Much of this is from quick moving storms and light winter snowfalls.

DUTIES

• Public Contact:  Hosts provide camping assistance and area information to visitors; advise visitors about rules and regulations; and alert law enforcement about emergencies, unsafe conditions, or infractions.  (No law enforcement duties.)  Hosts present professional, neat appearance to the public and wear BLM t-shirts or vests & hats (provided).  
• Maintenance:  Hosts are not expected to clean vault toilets, but they are expected to restock them with toilet paper. Pick-up litter. Perform light maintenance as needed.
• Schedule:    Reside at campground seven days a week--typically work Thursdays through Mondays; off Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Work hours: 8 hours per day/ 5 days a week. (am and pm duties).
• Abilities:  Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to serve independently with minimal supervision. Able to walk or stand for campground rounds and lift 20 lbs. if needed.
• Reimbursement   $20/day for each 8-hour service day (5 days a week required) and mileage for fulfilling campground duties.  Minimum two month commitment required for reimbursement.
