Judith Landing Campground and River Access Recreation Area Volunteer
Upper Missouri National Wild & Scenic River located in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument
Judith Landing Recreation Area is located in a picturesque cottonwood grove on the banks of the Missouri River approximately 44 miles southeast of Big Sandy, MT (population 657) and approximately 23 miles northwest of Winifred, MT (population 152). On a MT highway map, follow road 236 SE from Big Sandy to the Upper Missouri River. Limited facilities available in Big Sandy include: grocery store, gas station, full service medical center, banking services, several eateries and three motels. Limited facilities available in Winifred include: convenience store, gas station, and café.
Host positions are in support of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) objectives and policies. Incumbent will be expected to support the BLM’s role, objectives and policies in providing outdoor recreation to visitors. Judith Landing Campground and river access can be very busy, and fast-paced at times. There is a campground, and day use area, as well as access to the Upper Missouri River. Campground has approximately 10 campsites, and a boat launch and take out. Campground is on a first come first serve basis.
Hosting duties include but are not limited to: Routine bathroom cleaning and monitoring, monitoring facilities and campground for visitor security, fee compliance, cleanliness issues and potential safety hazards, light maintenance duties, routine daily trash pickup throughout the campground, routine fire-ring monitoring and cleaning, daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground and adjacent area, reporting to staff when repairs are needed or when incidents occur, and other duties as assigned
Host duties start middle part of May and can last up until the middle of September. Schedules will be five days a week with duties needed especially on weekends, holidays and evenings, when visitation is at its highest. Incumbent will be provided with a campsite, with access to water, sewer and electricity. Reimbursement is contingent on duties performed, and may be provided to offset expenses. Incumbent will be required to pass a background check and will be accepted upon successful completion. Hosts will be required to abide by all BLM policies, and rules and regulations. Ability to communicate and interact with others in a friendly and helpful manner is a must in this highly visible and busy position.
Special Qualifications:

Be prepared to live in a very isolated area with minimal contact with BLM personnel.

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Must be able to deal with the public in courteous manner and present a professional image.

Must be able to keep accurate site visitation records.
