About this Opportunity
A volunteer is needed to assist with maintenance at the Osceola National Forest during the summer and/or fall season. Maintenance is needed in minor projects, sign posts, light carpentry, trash pickup and other work as needed around the forest. Driving record required to obtain federal license to drive a vehicle if coming from out of state. Prefer experience working at a federal agency if possible. Experience working at recreation facilities also helpful.
Requirements include carpentry skills, valid driver's license, and the ability to use hand tools.
Volunteer would provide assistance for 25 hours per week in exchange for a free campsite with full hook ups (dump tank for sewer), equipment and propane reimbursement. The summer season begins in May through August. The fall season starts September and ends in November.
The Osceola National Forest is located about 45 minutes from Jacksonville with population of 1 million, 40 minutes to Gainesville and the University of Florida, 20 minutes to Lake City with full amenities and with the Nature Coast Corridor including the Suwanee River Valley. Plenty of state parks, rivers and springs, ocean beach access, and cultural amenities are nearby.
