About this Opportunity

The Eastern Shore of Virginia NWR, an important migratory bird stopover site, is recruiting for mulitple volunteers to work in our Visitor Center to greet visitors, orient them to the refuge, and provide limited interpretation of displays.   The Eastern Shore of Virginia and Fisherman Island National Wildlife Refuges are located at the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula.  Come join our team and live on a beautiful coastal refuge while contributing to wildlife conservation.

Schedule is dependent on several factors including that of other volunteers and may include weekends.  Visitor Center is open 7 days a week from 9-4pm and coverage is needed everyday starting April 1st-October 31st.  End date is flexible with a commitment of at least 3 months preferred.  Modern refuge bunkhouse style housing with WIFI access is available with a minimum of volunteering 24 hours per week.  We also have available RV pad sites with full hook up for electric, water, and sewage.

Requirements:

  • Must have good oral communication skills
  • A vehicle is not required but is strongly recommended for personal use since area is relatively rural with most services located approximately 10 miles away
