About this Opportunity

Biking volunteers needed!

Santa Ana NWR is looking for avid cyclists to serve as active stewards of the Refuge. A newly established biking program is available to the public from July – December on Thursdays to Sundays. Biking volunteers will issue out permits and wristbands, gather visitation data, provide Refuge information to visitors, ride the designated routes to answer questions, report maintenance and visitor non-compliance to Refuge staff. While biking volunteers are expected to be out on a bike for the majority of the day, you may also be asked to issue information to visitors and collect entry fees from the Refuge Fee Booth.

Volunteers should be 18 years of age or older, be physically fit, and have excellent communication and customer service skills. Volunteers can expect to work Thursdays to Sundays and flexible working hours to match riding patterns from the public according to the season.

Volunteers must provide their own bike and Personal Protective gear. The Refuge will provide additional equipment/gear as needed.

We are looking to fill two, three-month time slots:  July – October and October – December. Longer commitments will be considered.

The Refuge offers amenities such as full utilities, hook-up and washer/dryer in exchange for 24 hours – 32 hours per person, per week.

For further information or to check on application status please contact Gisela Chapa at [email protected] or at 956-784-7541.
