About this Opportunity
Job Duties:
- Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
- Performs routine vehicle maintenance.
- Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; repairing decking, minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches.
- Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels.
- Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles.
- Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing fixtures.
- Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and rest barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collects trash.
- Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work
- Repairs fence.
- Makes minor repairs as needed and refers problems to employees.
- Perfrom invasive species control
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of simple and common trade practices.
- Ability to make simple measurements using tape measure and square.
- Ability to use simple hand tools such as hammer, saw, brush and roller, screwdriver, wrench, electric drill/saw and other power tools in a safe and acceptable manner.
- Ability to operate light vehicles and equipment such as pick-up truck and forklift.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction.
Physical Requirements
- This position will include some strenuous physical activity.
- Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms.
- Where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked are on hard to reach, volunteer may be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb.
- This position may involve working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Frequently lifts, carries and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge is located 50 miles south of Albuquerque, NM and 25 miles north of Socorro, NM. Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge is 230,000 acers and home to diverse plant communities and wildife.The surrounding area are located in the arid zone of New Mexico and is generally quite dry. Sevilleta NWR has mountain ranges to the west (Ladrones) and east (Los Pinos). A wide variety of ecosystems con be found at Sevilleta NWR: Chihuahua desert, pinion junipr woodlands, short grass prairie and Colorado Shurb steppe. The state’s largest river, the Rio Grande, bisects the states largest Refuge. The area has moderate climate throughout the year. Approximately 8" of precipitation occur throughout the year. There are numerous opportunities to hike, bike, and explore native-American historic sites as well as enjoying the beautiful wide-open spaces of sunny New Mexico!
Our small RV community is a graveled area with water, sewer, and electric hook ups. The laundry room and Visitor Center are just steps away. Wi-Fi is also available!
