About this Opportunity

Shenandoah National Park's main reception desk is often the first point of contact for visitors to the Park. Volunteers provide information and assistance to walk-in visitors, mail out Park information packets, and answer phone inquiries concerning park recreational activities and natural resources. Volunteers will provide information to a diverse group of visitors.

Goal of position: To provide assistance and Park information to a greater number of Park visitors, thereby facilitating trip planning and greater visitor enjoyment of the Park.

Skills/ Knowledge Required: Volunteer should enjoy working with the public. Should have knowledge of or willingness to learn about Park natural and cultural resources and ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages. Shold be able to remain calm and courteous during occasional busy conditions.

Benefits: Volunteers will hone their reception skills as well as working with the public. In addition, volunteers will learn about many aspects of the Park’s natural and cultural resources. A uniform will be provided.

Work Location: Volunteer opportunity is located in the Park headquarters building located at 3655 US Hwy 211 East, Luray, VA 22835. This position is located outside of the Park.

Work Schedule:  The Headquarters Information desk is staffed Monday - Friday 8:00 to 4:30, volunteer availability must fall in this time.   Weekend hours are not available for this position. 

Volunteers must be 18 years of age to perform this position.
