About this Opportunity
Position Description: This position is primarily to help the division of Interpretation staff the front desks at the park Visitor Center and the USS Cairo Museum. This will require volunteers to have knowledge of park facilities, directions and history, and to communicate that information to visitors when requested. Volunteers may serve on a part-time basis and do not have any minimum hour limit. Additional projects or interests the volunteer may want to develop will be welcomed by the park. Other divisional opportunities available for volunteers include: Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, Administration, and Maintenance.
Qualifications: This position does not require any prior experience beyond a willingness to learn and an openness to communicating with the public. Prior knowledge about the American Civil War is welcomed.
Suitability: High School, College or Graduate Students, Adults, Seniors, and anyone interested in the American Civil War!
Opportunity Timeframe: This is a recurring need for the park, so we will accept applicants throughout the year! There is no deadline to apply.
Hours: No minimum level of hours required, though a willingness to work some special event weekends may be appreciated.
Housing: No park housing is guaranteed, and local applicants are encouraged to apply.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As of Tuesday, March 16th, the park Visitor Center and USS Cairo Museum are closed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Volunteers are still welcome to apply, but we may postpone your start date until after the museums are re-opened.
