Local Volunteer Guide - NO HOUSING AVAILABLE
The National Park Service is responsible for managing the natural and cultural resources of the park for the enjoyment of this and future generations. Come join the team!
Volunteers in this position will serve in the Division of Interpretation and Education, responsible for helping the public to have a safe and enjoyable experience and facilitating intellectual and emotional connections with the meanings inherent in the resources of the park. Whether helping a visitor choose a hike, teaching about geology of Hawaiian volcanoes, or educating the public about Hawaiian ecosystems and culture, you can make a big difference in the experience of the visitor! The work’s primary focus will be on providing excellent customer service to park visitors. 
Duties include:
•    Staffing Kilauea visitor center and Jaggar Museum to help with trip planning and disseminate information about the park to visitors.
•    Developing and presenting interpretive talks on natural and cultural history to large groups from around the world; and
•    Roving public areas to provide information to visitors


Minimum commitment 2 days/week after 40 initial hour training


Knowledge / Skills Desired
•    Enjoy working with the public
•    Outgoing/friendly personality
•    Excellent oral communication skills 
•    Able to prioritize demands and handle visitor requests in an efficient manner
•    Knowledge of park locations and attractions helpful, as well as park resources such as flora, fauna, geology, and Hawaiian history
•    Capacity to work with minimum supervision
•    Multi-lingual a plus
•    Some light lifting
•    Capable of standing or sitting for several hours
•    Patience and flexibility
Desired: Valid driver’s license; natural or cultural science background; ability to work independently; public speaking skills; first aid/CPR certification, excellent customer service skills.No housing or stipend will be provided. Upon approval a small reimbursement for mileage from home may be provided.
