About this Opportunity

Help us perform the critical tasks that make the visitor experience at Stones River National Battlefield one of the best in the nation. TIME REQUIREMENTS: Minimum one day a week (4-8 hour shifts) SUPERVISOR: Facilities & Natural Resources Manager DUTIES: Volunteers may be asked to perform a number of tasks including: Mowing, Weed Trimming, Trash pick-up, Painting, Minor facility maintenance (cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc.), Small-scale construction, and Preservation tasks (cleaning headstones, minor masonry repairs, etc.) Volunteers may also be assigned special projects based on their skills and interests. If you have special technical skills (i.e. electrician, plumber, mason, etc.) please let us know on your application. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION: Communication and interpersonal skills, Ability to work independently and as part of a team, Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, and must be able to lift at least fifteen pounds for some jobs. Specialized skills such as being an electrician, plumber, mason, etc. are desirable. TRAINING PROVIDED (R-Required, O-Optional) Volunteer Orientation (R) Orientation to the Battle of Stones River (R) Maintenance Operations Orientation (R) Introduction to the National Park Service: The History of the NPS (R) Foundations of Interpretation (R) Effective Informal Interpretation (R) Task Specific Training as Needed (R) First Aid and CPR (O) Housing may be provided to volunteers who commit to working at least 32 hours per week for a minimum of four weeks.
