About this Opportunity

Lake Sherwood, located at the end of State Route 14 near Neola, West Virginia, is a complete family recreation area offering a wide variety of activities. Lake Sherwood, the largest lake in the Monongahela National Forest, is a 165 acre impoundment at an elevation of 2700 feet above sea level. The recreation area includes a large campground, swimming beaches, a picnic area, and trails.

We are seeking a campground host for the area.

Duties include:

  • Greet campers as they come into your designated camping loop, make them aware of your presence. Answer any questions about the area, and inform visitors of the campground rules.
  • Daily cleaning of your assigned restroom and campsites, (10 to 15 campsites): this includes removing ashes from fire rings, litter removal, raking gravel, and wiping down picnic tables.
  • Reporting any accidents or incidents to Ranger on duty.
  • Make sure each camper has the correct gate combination. ( we lock the main entrance gate each evening at 9pm)
  • Inform campers of wildlife such as black bears so that they properly store food and dispose of trash.

Volunteer is required to be onsite 6 days a week with 1 rest day. On scheduled days of service, you are to clean your assigned restroom in the morning and late afternoon. You are to clean campsites as campers vacate. After all sites and your assigned restroom is clean, you are free to enjoy the day, though you should be availalbe to campers to answer questions. On your rest day, there will be another staff member assigned to clean your area.

Camp hosts must supply their own self-contained camping unit such as an RV, pull-behind trailer, or fifth-wheel trailer.

To apply for a Camp Host position on the Monongahela National Forest, you will need to fill out a volunteer application. We will request at least three references. Please note we conduct background checks on all applicants. A reimbursement for allowable expenses may be provided.  An electric and water hookup campsite is also provided  for volunteer hours.

Positions are available from late May-Labor Day
